Dental X-rays

We do Digital X-rays

Dental X-rays can help prevent, detect and treat a variety of conditions

Dental X-rays, also known as dental radiographs, can help Dr. Smith detect hidden abnormalities, diagnose dental disease and create an effective treatment plan for Vero Beach patients. The early detection and treatment of dental problems can save you time, money, pain — and your teeth themselves.

Dental X-rays provide a wealth of valuable information, including the presence and location of:

  • Decay between the teeth
  • Developmental abnormalities
  • Incorrect tooth or tooth root positions
  • Issues inside a tooth or below the gum line
  • Bone loss
  • Cysts or abscesses
  • Cancerous or benign tumors

Dental X-rays are safe for any patient

Radiation is present in any environment, and while X-rays involve a higher-than-normal concentration, the amount patients are exposed to during X-rays is about equal to the amount we are exposed to in a single day from natural sources.

Although there is no danger posed by dental X-rays, precautions are taken to limit your exposure to radiation. A lead apron shield will be used to protect your body. Fast film and digital imaging both can cut down the time needed to capture each X-ray.

X-rays should be taken regularly but are not necessary at every trip to the dentist

The necessity of X-rays is determined on an individual basis, based on your medical and dental history, a thorough examination of your mouth, your age and your signs, symptoms and risk factors for certain conditions.

A full mouth series of dental X-rays is typically recommended for new patients, and the series is usually valid for three to five years.

Bitewing X-rays capture a view of the top and bottom teeth biting together. They are recommended at dental checkups once or twice a year as a ways to check for new dental issues.
